The Quarter is a defined geographic area, not a list of streets. The published outline below is the authoritative version.
What the boundary includes
This outline is traced from the shaded map approved by Brighton Queer Quarter Ltd. The main northern edge follows Edward Street, with the narrow Brighton Sauna area extending above it. The eastern edge follows the Upper Bedford Street side, the southern edge follows Marine Parade, and the western edge follows Old Steine. Premises inside this outline are eligible for a free listing.
How eligibility works
- Inside the mapped Quarter: every eligible business gets a complete free listing, free events and offers publishing, and the same core tools as everyone else. There is no paid tier for any of it.
- Outside the boundary: businesses are not in the organic directory and do not appear as map pins. They may buy clearly labelled sponsorship placements, which never confer an inside-the-Quarter designation and never affect organic ranking.
- Charities and community organisations: may have a free community profile even when they're based elsewhere. Their true location and their relationship to the Quarter are always shown.
- Performers and creatives: free profiles, with no requirement to be inside the boundary.
Edge cases
Premises on the boundary line, pop-ups, businesses with no public premises and relocations all go through a submission and review route. Nothing is approved automatically, decisions are recorded with a reason, and there is an appeal route. A change of address triggers a fresh eligibility review rather than keeping an old designation.
Paying for sponsorship never moves a business inside the Quarter. Eligibility is decided by the mapped boundary and a recorded review — never by payment.
